Friends of Beck Park
FOBP meets bi-monthly and more often when special projects are underway. Park events bring out many more volunteers; the camaraderie is evident by enthusiastic participation by new neighbors. To date the group has volunteered over 1500 hours to make the park what it is today – clean, safe, and attractive. FOBP regularly participates in Love Your Park and other clean-up events, as it has done so since 2005.
FOBP has submitted entry into the City Gardens contest since 2007 and continues to steadily improve in standing. FOBP won a $10,000 DCED grant in 2007, with which significant improvements to the park walls were made. FOBP won a $6,600 QVNA grant in 2018, with which all cracked sidewalks were replaced, and a $7,000 grant in 2020, with which the brick walls were repaired and repointed. Established in 2005, the Friends of Beck Park (FOBP) worked with neighborhood volunteers to transform this abandoned “pocket park” into an oasis for neighbors and the city. In 2006, FOBP undertook a massive effort to beautify the park; as a result, the FOBP was recognized by the City of Philadelphia.
FOBP are members of the Queen Village Neighbors Association (QVNA). Current Chair of FOBP, Ed Snyder, has continued this effort since fall 2017.
