PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 17, 2024 -- The Historic Gloria Dei Preservation Corporation (HGDPC) will hold two parties in one … or a “two-fer” … Friday, Oct. 4 at 6 p.m
HGDPC will celebrate 11 years of protecting Pennsylvania’s oldest church, and also unveil its free new Old Swedes’ Self-Guided Graveyard Tour App at a special launch party.
Festivities will take place at Historic Gloria Dei (Old Swedes’) Church, the graveyard and Riverside Hall, 916 S. Swanson Street (Columbus Blvd. & Christian Street) in the Queen Village section of Philadelphia.
Evening events include gourmet food, a wine-tasting contest, silent auction and demonstrations of the new app in the graveyard.
Craft beer will also be available for purchase.
Tickets are $20 for the evening and advance registration is recommended at: https://preserveoldswedes.org/app-party
Enjoy the evening with friends, family and neighbors
Amy Grant, chair of HGDPC, says it will be a night of fun. “Come out, celebrate our anniversary, learn how to use our new free app and help us preserve this architectural treasure.”
The new app contains 87 biographies and offers special self-guided tours of the graveyard. Plus, it includes an interactive, searchable map of Gloria Dei’s historic graveyard. Visitors can search over 1000 names to find their ancestors’ graves.
One-hundred percent of the proceeds from ticket sales support the preservation and restoration of Gloria Dei (Old Swedes’) Church and its graveyard.
The app project was made possible by support from the Philadelphia Cultural Fund and the Queen Village Neighbors Association.
