QVNA’s volunteers to be celebrated May 15

Please join us on May 15th from 6-9pm at O’Neals Pub for a light-hearted evening of mingling, nibbles and refreshments to celebrate neighbors who volunteer for QVNA. All Queen Village residents are invited to this kid-friendly event.

The celebration includes the 7pm announcement of QVNA’s Spring 2019 Community Grant Recipients.  A total of $10,000 in grants has been approved by QVNA’s Board of Directors to provide funding to groups of neighbors who are planning a program or project to help improve the neighborhood and enhance the quality of life of Queen Village residents.

Community Grants to be announced May 15

Please join us on Wednesday, May 15th at 7pm as we announce the recipients of QVNA’s Spring 2019 Community Grants!

This important announcement takes place during QVNA’s Volunteer Celebration Party at O’Neals Pub, 611 South 3rd Street (6-9pm).

QVNA’s Community Grant Program provides funding to groups of neighbors who are planning a project to improve the neighborhood and enhance the quality of life of Queen Village residents.  We accept grant requests for a wide range of projects and programs, such as enhancing parks, gardens, playgrounds, educational programs, neighborhood safety, clean & green projects, and historic preservation.

Grant applications are evaluated by the QVNA Grants Committee based on the:

  1. Degree to which the proposed project meets a community need
  2. Clarity of the project description
  3. Budget detail that reflects well-defined needs and reasonable costs
  4. Capacity of applicant organization to complete the project

In past years, QVNA grants have helped to fund projects like the Fulton Street Mural, a joint quality of life signage project with Paradigm Gallery and local street artist Kid Hazo, scholastic endeavors at Meredith and Nebinger Elementary, as well as improvements Southwark Queen Village Community Garden, Mario Lanza Park, Beck Street Park, Bodine Street Community Garden, Friends of Shot Tower and others.

Sharing the love in Queen Village

On Saturday, April 27th more than 60 neighbors beautified Queen Village, cleaning and greening six neighborhood parks:

  1. Bainbridge Green (4th & Bainbridge St)
  2. Beck Park (2nd & Beck St)
  3. Front Street Rose Garden (Front & Christian St)
  4. Mary Street Park (Washington Ave, Front St & League St)
  5. Moyamensing Point (Moyamensing Ave, 2nd St & Christian St)
  6. Weccacoe Playground (400 Catherine St)

A big SHOUT OUT to Southwark/Queen Village Community Garden for donating over 100 iris plants for our parks.

A warm thank you to Philadelphia Java Company and Dunkin Donuts for your generous donations of coffee and donuts for QVNA volunteers!

And CHEERS to the ten neighborhood cafes, restaurants and pubs that provided exclusive offers to our volunteers!

In addition, many neighbors added green to the day by donating to QVNA’s Clean & Green fund.  This fund will continue to collect donations for future LOVE QUEEN VILLAGE events: click here to donate.
